We are pleased to announce the second workshop on User Interfaces for Spatial and Temporal Data Analysis (UISTDA), held in conjunction with the 24th ACM International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (IUI2019) in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Nowadays, humanity generates many large and complex datasets, especially, those based on data collected from social media or volunteered geographic information, that have strong spatial and temporal attributes. The generated data tend to be complex, heterogeneous (texts, images, videos, geographic information, temporal information, etc.) and rapidly growing or changing over space and time dimensions. Hence, special, dedicated solutions for visualizing the data and developing effective user interfaces that would assist users in efficient analysis need to be proposed and used. Effective data preprocessing and management techniques are also needed for constructing large scale real-world applications or for investigating complex interaction patterns with such data in order to detect useful knowledge. We are also interested in solutions to offer collaborative systems/platforms for creating such data with the help of multiple users and crowds.

This workshop aims at sharing latest progress and developments, current challenges and potential applications for exploiting large amounts of spatial and temporal data. One practical application example to mention is specialized route navigation and suggestion systems for pedestrians, cyclists, tourists, or minorities such as elderly people, pregnant, disabled people, etc. To generate route suggestions and explore potential suggested routes users need effective systems and user interfaces.
